General Guidelines
- Always use a consistent format in terms of font, spacing and verbage usage.
- Bullet key points or accomplishments under each main job heading - this will help with readability
and make your accomplishments stand out.
- White Space is not to be completly avoided. It should be used to avoid clutter.
- Number each page and include your name with each page.
- There should be no gaps in your timeline. If there are, do you best to consisely explain them.
- Use a professional type, such as Times New Roman - The font should be readable –
No smaller than 10 and no larger than 14.
- Make Sure All Information is Truthful and Accurate to the best of your ability.
- Proof Read, Proof Read, Proof Read - have it reviewed by someone else.
Your CV will act as your application for the position and all good applications
should consist of the following items
generally in this order:
Cover Letter
Objective Statement (Optional, but Recommended)
Clinical / Practice Experience (Most Recent is always listed 1st) This information should make up the bulk of the CV and each position should contain the
following items:
- Location
- Duration
- Type of Practice
- Hospital Affiliations
- Special Privileges/ Procedures
Education
(Most Recent First – Include Name, Location, Degree(s), and Dates) - This should be as detailed as possible:
- Medical School
- Any other Graduate Degrees
- Undergraduate
- Post Graduate Medical Training (Type, Location, Dates)
- Fellowship
- Residency

Additional Pertinant Information:
- Board Status (If Eligible Provide Detail)
- Exams Taken
- Professional Organizations
- Honors and Publications
- Personal Information
- Marital Status, Spouse Name and Occupation
- Children (Optional to Provide Names and Ages)
- Hobbies, Interests
References Do not necessarily need to accompany your CV initially but be prepared to provide this document.
Four Professional References is a good number to provide - Include Current Phone Numbers and Positions.
Make Certain All References Are Aware You Are Listing Them.
